Researching the Importance of Morgan's Message

For my podcast, I discussed NCAA athletes and their mental health, and why collegiate athletes should pay attention more to an organization called ‘Morgan’s Message.’ I had two guests, Bella Cear and Tabi Conrad, two Furman athletes that talked about their journey through mental health, the difference between athletes and non-athletes handling pressure, and how becoming ambassadors for ‘Morgan’s Message’ gained an understanding, for both Cear and Conrad, in wanting to help other athletes that struggle with mental health issues as well.

I learned a lot when making, editing, and completing this podcast. I learned that my newest pet peeve are the words “um” or “uh” because of the number of times I had to cut it out while editing the recordings. I learned more on how to be more detail oriented with cutting the audios to make sure it flows right and doesn’t sound like it’s been cut. I also gained the knowledge on what it’s like to work in Adobe Audition as well after having no previous experience on how to make a podcast and developed new skills with interviewing a guest as well as being a good host.

With my newfound knowledge on how to make podcasts, I will be using this experience

through my desired future in working in sports and learning how to communicate with many

athletes. It taught me new forms of communication like interviewing and hosting, just like what

I would do if I worked on the sidelines. Though I did learn a lot about the unspoken social

issue of mental health in NCAA athletes, I also gained more of an understanding of what they

must go through daily, and it opened my eyes a lot on how many expectations they must fulfill

on and off season.
